This class is designed for those who desire to learn and practice basic woodturning skills within the context of making a lidded box. The week will have several main areas of focus. One of those areas is sharpening. Understanding how and when to sharpen is critical to the enjoyment of turning. Hopefully I can help each participant develop a repeatable strategy for sharpening that they can take home with them. Another main area of focus will involve learning to use four tools basic to end grain box making: the spindle gouge, the skew chisel, the ring or hook tool, and the 1/2" round nose scraper. Proficiency with these tools makes possible sharp well defined detail, more refined forms and very little sanding. I'm looking forward to a fun and informative week.
See you in October, Matthew Hill
